Machine-woven skirt of red flannel, trimmed at the top and bottom with a band of green silk. The skirt is decorated with metal plates and beadwork, including butterflies and flowers and the motif of an eagle on a cactus with a snake in its beak - a symbol of the foundation of the Aztec capital Tenochtitlan and also to be found on the Mexican flag.\ The skirt belongs to the national "China-poblana" costume of mestizo women (of Spanish-Indian origin), worn on festive occasions.
