Lace — ca. 1860

Black machine made lace. An oval shadow with elongated lappets at the side. Cut from a length of black silk lace, it is dense with an all over pattern of scrolling stems and flower heads. The outlines were made on the machine and it has some honeycomb fillings. The scallop was cut from a separate length of lace and attached to a shaped, centre piece.
