Wolfenstein 3D gilt als Meilenstein der Videospielgeschichte und als Initialzündung für das Genre der Ego-Shooter. Das Spiel mit rudimentärer 3D-Grafik ist in einem Zweiten Weltkriegsszenario angesiedelt, weist jedoch deutliche Science-Fiction- und Trash-Elemente („Mecha-Hitler“) auf.
