Etymology: Calque of taxonomic name Artocarpus; by surface analysis, bread (calque of ἄρτος (ártos)) + fruit (calque of κᾰρπός (kărpós)).

1. Any of species Artocarpus altilis of evergreen trees, native to islands of the east Indian Ocean and western Pacific Ocean.
