Etymology: From French céphalopode, from Ancient Greek κεφαλή (kephalḗ, “head”) + ποδός (podós), genitive singular of πούς (poús, “foot, leg”). By surface analysis, cephalo- + -pod.

1. Any mollusc of the class Cephalopoda, which includes squid, cuttlefish, octopus, nautiloids etc.
