Etymology: Named in antiquity after the hair of Queen Berenice II of Egypt. From Latin coma (“hair of the head”) + Berenīcē, from Ancient Greek Κώμη Βερενίκης (Kṓmē Bereníkēs), from κώμη (kome) "hair" + Doric Greek Βερενίκη (Berenike) "bringer of victory"
