Etymology: From door + way.

1. The passage of a door; a door-shaped entrance into a house or a room.

   “I stood by the doorway to watch her go.”

   “A re-arrangement of the seating in relation to doorway positions gives an even distribution of seated passengers, no change has been made in the number or size of the doorways.”

2. An opening or passage in general.

   “Soon after dawn, he came to the doorway of my tent.”
