Etymology: Learned borrowing from Latin ichneumōn, from Ancient Greek ἰχνεύμων (ikhneúmōn, “tracker”), from ἴχνος (íkhnos, “track, footstep”).

1. An Egyptian mongoose (Herpestes ichneumon), found in Africa and southern Europe.
