noun
Etymology: Literally, monster (“very large”) + truck (“motor vehicle”). Reportedly coined by Bob George, an owner of a motorsports promotion company, in the early 1980s, when referring to a popularly oversized truck named Bigfoot. Through semantic generalization, it came to refer to any of these oversized trucks.
- A large truck designed specifically to perform in monster truck shows, typically based on a lifted pickup truck with oversized wheels and modified suspension.
