adv

Etymology: From motivic + -ally.

  1. In accordance with, or by means of, a motif.

In contrast to the motivically imprinted accompagnato, however, in which the motive has a purely accompanying function, the arioso often contains motivic imitation between the vocal and instrumental parts.
