Etymology: Borrowed from Greek μουσακάς (mousakás), from Ottoman Turkish موصاقه (musakka), from Arabic مُسَقَّعَة (musaqqaʕa) or originally from Arabic مُصَقَّعَة (muṣaqqaʕa), from the trilateral root ص ق ع (ṣ q ʕ): “to hit, to pound, to smash”.
