adj

Etymology: From para- + mutable.

  1. Able to undergo paramutation

An interesting genetic phenomenon is paramutation, where a methylated epiallele can silence a paramutable allele in heterozygous progeny with the acquisition of methylated DNA. However in this case, methylation appears to be rather the consequence of gene silencing than the cause.
