noun

Etymology: From Vancouver Island + -er.

  1. A native or inhabitant of Vancouver Island.

There are, however, a few of their traditions, which appear to have been handed down to them from the same source as the story of Mango Capac amongst the Peruvians—the overflow of the great waters, to the Indians of Central America; the worship of Al, the great spirit, by the Vancouver islanders; and although these are mingled with many absurd rites to propitiate the demons, yet they appear to have some connection with revelation.

Those Vancouver Islanders from “up-Island” are conveniently linked only to Thetis Island via Chemainus and Salt Spring Island via Crofton.
