Etymology: Borrowed from Spanish Venezuela, from Italian Veneziola, diminutive of Venezia (“Venice”), after the stilt houses reminiscent of Venetian architecture.

1. A country in South America. Official name: Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela. Capital and largest city: Caracas.
