noun

Etymology: From wave + band.

  1. A range of electromagnetic wavelengths or frequencies; for example shortwave or mediumwave radio.

Since stomiids are sensitive to the far-red bioluminescence produced by their suborbital photophores, which other animals in the deepsea cannot sea, they have what could be regarded as a private waveband.
