Etymology: From zoom + in.

1. To increase the focal length of a zoom lens in order to obtain a magnified image, or a close-up.

   “The camera operator will zoom in on the subject for a close-up shot.”

   “The photographer decided to zoom in on the details of the flower.”

2. To manipulate a display (such as a computer screen) so as to make the image larger.

   “You can zoom in on the map to get a better view of the city.”
