Xenobots, named after the clawed frog (Xenopus laevis), are synthetic lifeforms that are designed by computers to perform some desired function and built by combining together different biological tissues. There is debate among scientists whether xenobots are robots, organisms, or something else entirely.

Vyommitra (Sanskrit: "space", "friend") is a humanoid robot with appearance of a woman designed for space travel. It was designed at the Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala and developed by ISRO to function aboard the spacecraft Gaganyaan, a crewed orbital spacecraft. Vyommitra was first unveiled on 22 January 2020 at the Human Spaceflight and Exploration Symposium in Bengaluru, Karnataka.
