Magnus Aurelius Cassiodorus Senator (c. 485 – c. 585), commonly known as Cassiodorus (), was a Roman statesman, scholar, and writer who served in the administration of Theodoric the Great, king of the Ostrogoths. Senator was part of his surname, not his rank. In his later years, he devoted himself to Christian learning and founded the Vivarium monastery, where he worked extensively during the final decades of his life.

Gildas (English pronunciation: , Breton: Gweltaz; ) – also known as , (in Middle Welsh texts and antiquarian works) and (Gildas the Wise) – was a 6th-century British monk best known for his religious polemic , which recounts the history of the Britons before and during the coming of the Saxons. He is one of the best-documented figures of the Christian church in the British Isles during the sub-Roman period, and was renowned for his Biblical knowledge and literary style. In his later life, he emigrated to Brittany, where he founded a monastery known as Saint-Gildas-de-Rhuys.

Paterius (died 606) was a bishop of Brescia. He is known as a compiler, in particular of works of Pope Gregory I, for whom he had worked as a notary. thumb|Sarcophagus of Saint Paterius bishop of Brescia in the Coro delle Monache in the Museo di Santa Giulia in Brescia His sole surviving work is the Liber testimoniorum veteris testamenti, an anthology of Gregory's works of biblical exegesis, arranged in the order of the biblical passages discussed.
