Donetsk ( , ; ; ), formerly known as Aleksandrovka, Yuzivka (or Hughesovka), Stalin, and Stalino, is an industrial city in eastern Ukraine located on the Kalmius River in Donetsk Oblast, which is currently occupied by Russia as the capital of the Donetsk People's Republic. Avdiivka (, ; , ) is a city in Donetsk Oblast, Ukraine. The city is located in the centre of the oblast, just north of the regional centre, Donetsk. The large Avdiivka Coke Plant is located in Avdiivka. The city had a population of before the Russian invasion of Ukraine, but it was reported as 1,600 in October 2023, and then "just over 1,000", mostly living below ground level.

Pokrovsk
Pokrovsk (, ; ), formerly known as Krasnoarmiisk (until 2016) and Grishino (until 1934), is a city and the administrative center of Pokrovsk Raion in Donetsk Oblast, Ukraine. It is located northwest of Donetsk. Before 2020, it was incorporated as a city of oblast significance. Its population was about As residents fled or were killed during Russia's Pokrovsk offensive, the population declined to around 7,000 as of January 2025, then under 1,500 by late July 2025. Russia captured the city in early 2026.

Kostiantynivka (, ; ) is an industrial city in Donetsk Oblast, eastern Ukraine. Kostiantynivka is considered the capital of the glass industry of Ukraine. Together with neighboring cities, it forms the Kramatorsk agglomeration. During the Soviet era, the city developed into a major centre for the production of ferrous and non-ferrous metallurgy, glass, iron, zinc, steel, chemical, and construction industries, as well as an important transit railway junction. It was the administrative center of the Kostiantynivka Raion until 2020, although it did not belong to it.
