Dipterocarpaceae
Dipterocarpaceae is a family of flowering plants with 22 genera and about 695 known species of mainly lowland tropical forest trees. Their distribution is pantropical, from northern South America to Africa, the Seychelles, India, Indochina, Indonesia, Malaysia and Philippines. The greatest diversity of Dipterocarpaceae occurs in Borneo.
Monotes
Monotes is a genus of flowering plants in the family Dipterocarpaceae. Its name, meaning "unity" or "uniqueness" was chosen because it was the only genus of dipterocarp then known to occur in Africa. The Zambezian region is the centre of diversity for the genus.
Cotylelobium
Cotylelobium is a genus of plants in the family Dipterocarpaceae. The name Cotylelobium is derived from Greek (kotyle = a small cup and lobos = a pod) and describes the receptacle. It contains five species distributed in Sri Lanka, Peninsular Thailand, Sumatra, Peninsular Malaysia and Borneo. All five species are listed on the IUCN redlist, as either vulnerable, endangered or critically endangered.

Upuna
Upuna is a monotypic genus of plants containing the single species Upuna borneensis. The genus name Upana is derived from its Iban name, upan. The species name borneensis refers to its distribution, being found only in Borneo. It is native to lowland mixed dipterocarp forests up to 400 meters elevation. It is a heavy hardwood similar to Vatica. While Upuna borneensis occurs in protected areas, it is threatened by logging, expansion of palm oil plantations and increasing frequency of fires.

Common names for the tree and its wood products include chengal, chan ta khien, chi-ngamat, takian chan, and takian chantamaeo. The tree grows over tall. Chengal is considered the number one wood (classified as heavy hardwood) of Malaysia and export of logs is prohibited due to its scarcity. The species is listed as endangered on the IUCN Red list.

Vateriopsis
Vateriopsis seychellarum is a species of plant in the family Dipterocarpaceae, and is the only species in the genus Vateriopsis. It is endemic to Seychelles. It has been labeled as a critically endangered species due to climate change.

Monotoideae
Monotoideae is a subfamily of the plant family Dipterocarpaceae, with 3 genera and 30 species. It is native to the rainforest habitat of Africa and Madagascar, as well as South America. The geographical discontinuity can be traced back to a date prior to the separation of these land masses and the subsequent migration, evolution and preservation of the species in suitable habitats.
