5 Pointz

During the weekends, 5 Pointz welcomed aerosol artists, rappers and dancers from around the world, who transformed the once barren sides of a yellow warehouse into a bright spectacle of public art. Opened in 2001, 5 Pointz was an outdoor graffiti space, where aerosol artists were given free reign and freedom from arrest. With 200,000 square feet of surface to paint, the warehouse was curated by artist Jonathan Cohen who scheduled times for artists to work and required a sample from aerosol painters wishing to add their work to the warehouse. Named for the five boroughs of New York, the warehouse became a center of the graffiti world. Update: Unfortunately, the whole building was painted over in November 2013 and demolished in 2014 to make way for new development. This surprising work of art reminds us that La Louvière was once home to one of Europe’s most famous stoneware factories. An 18-foot-tall troll sculpture, made from recycled wood and materials found in nature. A unique collection of figures perform down the facade of the Gene Frankel Theatre. On the side of Highway 50 East, between Carson City and Dayton, Nevada, sits a giant metal spider made from a vintage Volkswagen Beetle.
