Abilene (hebräisch für Stadt in der Ebene) ist eine Stadt im US-Bundesstaat Texas. Das U.S. Census Bureau hat bei der Volkszählung 2020 eine Einwohnerzahl von 125.182 ermittelt. Die Stadt wurde 1881 zur Zeit des Eisenbahnbaus in der Region gegründet. Zehn Jahre danach wurde 1891 die gegründet. Der Ort liegt 524 Meter über dem Meeresspiegel. Abilene ist stolz auf seine lange militärische Geschichte, die bis ins Jahr 1800 zurückreicht. Als Heimat der Dyess Air Force Base mit seiner Rockwell-B-1-Bomberflotte und des Lockheed-C-130-Transportflugzeuges wird diese militärische Tradition im 21. Jahrhundert fortgesetzt.
