Alanis Obomsawin (b. August 31, 1932 in New Hampshire, US) is an American Canadian Abenaki filmmaker and activist, primarily known for her documentaries on First Nations issues, among which the best known is Kanehsatake: 270 Years of Resistance, about the 1990 Oka Crisis, Quebec. In 1960, she made her professional debut as a singer-songwriter in New York City. She also managed her own stage at the Mariposa Folk Festival in the 60s.
