Alcorcón es un municipio y ciudad de España ubicada en la Comunidad de Madrid, en el área metropolitana de Madrid, a 14 kilómetros al suroeste de la capital. La cercanía de Alcorcón a Madrid capital ha propiciado un gran desarrollo industrial a lo largo del siglo XX, aumentando así la población hasta los 172 384 habitantes (INE 2020), lo que la sitúa como el cuadragésimo municipio español por tamaño poblacional. Aun así, gracias a la oferta de empleo dentro del municipio, se ha evitado su conversión en una ciudad dormitorio, ya que una gran parte de la población trabaja o estudia en Alcorcón. Durante los años 1970 se produjo la mayor aceleración del crecimiento de dicha población, debido fundamentalmente al asentamiento de emigrantes de otras regiones de España. Esto ha obligado a construir numerosas vías de acceso, ha hecho ampliar la oferta de servicios públicos y ha impulsado la creación de nuevos barrios a lo largo del siglo XX. El municipio que está suscrito a la Ley de Grandes Ciudades, se sitúa geográficamente a 13 km del centro de la ciudad de Madrid en dirección suroeste y pertenece al área metropolitana de la capital.
