Alfred Drake (1914-1992) created some of the great roles on Broadway - Curly, in "Oklahoma," Fred Graham, in "Kiss Me, Kate," and the Poet in Kismet, to name a few. He was actually offered the title role in "Billy Budd" at the Metropolitan Opera, because of his magnificent baritone (tenor?), but his Broadway career was doing too well to give it up. Read more on Last.fm
