Official website
Originating from a Quaker settlement, Allamuchy Township was formally established on April 4, 1873. Nestled in beautiful Warren County, Allamuchy derives its name from the Lenni Lenape Chief Allamuchahokkingen, meaning “place within the hills.” At the time of its incorporation, it was a remote farming community consisting of dairy farms with several gristmills to serve the farmers’ grain processing needs. While the township covers an area of 21 square miles, the majority of the population is located in the Village of Allamuchy and the gated community of Panther Valley. Despite the population increase brought on by the development of Panther Valley, the town is able to maintain its rural atmosphere through Open Space and Farmland Preservation programs. Allamuchy Township is accessible via Route 80, providing easy access east to Morris County and New York City, and west to Pennsylvania. Allamuchy’s location provides ample recreational opportunities for the outdoors enthusiast as well as those looking for cultural, educational, or dining options. Allamuchy is home to the historic Rutherfurd Hall, located on the shore of Allamuchy Pond. Owned by the Allamuchy Board of Education, Rutherfurd Hall provides year-round educational and enrichment programs to the residents of Allamuchy and surrounding communities.
