Althenia

This has long been a group of two species in the Mediterranean Europe and South Africa, but in 2016 was revised to include an Australasian relative, Lepilaena. The genus is named after the agronomist Jean Althen.

Althenia Petit – rodzaj roślin wodnych, hydrochamefitów, należący do rodziny rdestnicowatych (Potamogetonaceae), obejmujący 2 gatunki: Althenia filiformis Petit, występujący we Francji (w Delcie Rodanu, Gard i Hérault), Włoszech (Apulia) i Maroku, oraz Althenia orientalis (Tzvelev) García-Mur. & Talavera, występujący na obszarze od krajów śródziemnomorskich do środkowej Azji i w południowej Afryce. Rośliny te zasiedlają wody brachiczne. Nazwa naukowa rodzaju została nadana na cześć Jeana Althena, autora Mémoire sur la culture de la garance, żyjącego w XVIII wieku, który wprowadził we Francji do uprawy marzanę barwierską.

== Description == This genus is made up of aquatic herbs. The bristle-like leaves are clustered at the nodes. The wider bases produce broad ligules.
