Altstätten (in einheimischer Mundart [(ʦ) ˈɑˑltˌʃtetə]) ist eine Kleinstadt und politische Gemeinde in der Region und im Wahlkreis Rheintal im Kanton St. Gallen in der Ostschweiz. Als historischer Marktort bildet Altstätten seit dem Mittelalter ein Zentrum der Region (nebst Rheineck und Berneck) und war vor 2003 Hauptort des damaligen Bezirks Oberrheintal.
