==Taxonomy== The genus Amaurornis was erected by the German naturalist Ludwig Reichenbach in 1853 with the plain bush-hen (Amaurornis olivacea) as the type species. The name comes from the Greek amauros, meaning "dusky" or "brown" and ornis, meaning "bird".
