==Name== In Serbian, the town is known as Apatin (Апатин), while the same name is also used in Romanian, Croatian (Šokac), and Hungarian. In German it was called Abthausen. According to some claims, the name Apatin is derived from the old form Opaty, by which the town was first mentioned in the 11th century.
