It is native to Southeast Asia, primarily the island of Sumatra in Indonesia, and northwards to Peninsular Malaysia, Thailand, and Myanmar and eastwards to Java and the Lesser Sunda Islands. Some authorities regard this group as part of the larger genus Schismatoglottis.
