Augiet is een mafisch mineraal met chemische formule (Ca,Na)(Mg,Fe,Al)(Al,Si)2O6. Het is een vaste oplossing van de pyroxeen-groep met diopsiet en hedenbergiet. De kristallen zijn monoklien en prismatisch. Augiet komt vooral voor in magmatische gesteenten zoals gabbro's en basalten, en in metamorfe gesteenten bij hydrothermale bronnen. Sommige exemplaren hebben een bijzondere schittering, waar de naam vandaan komt (Grieks: augites betekent "helderheid"), hoewel normaal gesproken de kristallen een doffe (donkergroene, bruine of zwarte) glans hebben.
