August Grisebach

August Grisebach was a German botanist, naturalist, ecologist, and university teacher. Born Heinrich August Rudolf Grisebach in Hanover in 1814, he worked as a professor at the University of Göttingen. He was educated at the University of Göttingen, Heidelberg University, and Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin. His fields of work included botany and geobotany, and he wrote in German and Latin.

Grisebach was a member of the German Academy of Sciences Leopoldina, the Royal Prussian Academy of Sciences, the Bavarian Academy of Sciences and Humanities, and the Göttingen Academy of Sciences and Humanities in Lower Saxony. His notable works include *On Erythraea diffusa*, *Woods (Genitana sciliodes, Linn. fil.)*, *Bericht über die leistungen in der pflanzengeographie [und systematischen botanik]*, *Bericht-über die Fortschrittein der Geographie der Pflanzen*, *Reise durch Rumelien und nach Brussa im Jahre 1839*, and *Spicilegium florae rumelicae et bithynicae exhibens synopsin plantarum quas aest. 1839 legit*. He died in Göttingen in 1879.
