B. Kannan is an Indian veena player; he also plays the suddha maddalam. Kannan was born into an accomplished artistic family. His father, V. Balakrishnan, was a documentary-film maker, and his mother, Shyamala Balakrishnan, was a well known singer and musical scholar. His paternal grandfather, K.
