Bartosz Staszewski

Staszewski were one of the organizers of the Equality March in Lublin and founder of association with the same name. He is also member of association „Love Does not Exclude „. March 2022, together with his boyfriend he founded „Basta Foundation „. Basta is the only organisation in Poland that conducts watchdog activities in the Polish media against the homophobic and transphobic hate speech on an ongoing basis. We are using innovative tools – both in monitoring and communication of the issues (heavy use of video, targeted social media etc.). Staszewski is fighting in courts in several court-trials with Polish homophobic right-wing politicians and media. His up to date most important project was photo project called „Zones” where he travel to „LGBT-free zones”, municipalities that declared to be free from “LGBT-ideology”. Staszewski traveled to the the areas involved, where he briefly attaches a yellow sign saying “LGBT-FREE ZONE” next to the town sign. Project become viral and was one of the milestones in the discussion about horrendous decelarations introduced in Poland. Staszewski quickly become a target Polish government . He was accused of spreading false image of Poland – municipalities initiated defamation lawsuits against him. President of Poland, Andrzej Duda called Staszewski an “aggressive and radical” activist, prime minister a “fake news maker” who is attacking Poles and Poland. Cases against activist was called as a clear example of SLAPPs by ombudsman Adam Bodnar – many organizations, including European Parliament resolutions, appealed to government to stop prosecutions of Polish LGBT-activists and to reject of LGBT-free zones. Staszewskis work for the LGBT community has been recognized internationally. In 2019 he was awarded the European Tolerantia Award . Year later Bart was selected to be an Obama Leader , an initiative of President Obama to highlight activist who have demonstrated a commitment to advancing the common good. Staszewski was also among Bloomberg Businessweek „ Ones to Watch ” 2020 List , list associated with „the Bloomberg 50.” February 2021, activist was among Time 100 Next 2021 list of emerging leaders shaping the future by the American news magazine Time. Współtwórca stowarzyszenia Marsz Równości w Lublinie oraz Miłość Nie Wyklucza. Wraz ze swoim partnerem założył fundację Basta, która zajmuje się monitorowaniem homofobicznej nienawiści w mediach. Staszewski stoi za głośną akcją fotograficzną „Strefy” i jest pomysłodawcą znaku „strefa wolna od LGBT”, który mocował przy miejscowościach, które przyjęły uchwały przeciwko tzw. ideologii LGBT, potocznie zwanymi strefami wolnymi od LGBT+. Za swoje działania stał się celem politycznie motywowanych pozwów cywilnych (tzw. SLAPP) i kilkunastu postępowań o wykroczenie. Do tej pory nie przegrał żadnej sprawy sądowej. Był wielokrotnie nagradzany za swoje działania. W 2020 roku fundacja byłego prezydenta USA nadała mu tytuł Europejskiego Lidera Baracka Obamy. W 2021 jako jedyny Polak znalazł się na liście 100 wchodzących liderów amerykańskiego magazynu Time. Na liście znalazły się takie osoby jak piosenkarka Dua Lipa, aktor John David Washington i poetka Amanda Gorman. Magazyn Bloomberg umieścił go na liście „Ones do watch” związanej z listą 50 najbardziej wpływowych ludzi. Wśród krytyków działań Staszewskiego znalazł się Premier Morawiecki nazywając działania Staszewskiego „deep fake’m”. W wywiadzie udzielonym litewskiej telewizji „LRT” Andrzej Duda przekonywał, że Polska to tolerancyjny kraj, „strefy anty LGBT” nigdy nie istniały, a za przedstawianiem kraju w złym świetle stoi jeden „radykalny i agresywny” działacz — Bart Staszewski.
