เบนฌาแม็ง กงสต็อง

Benjamin Constant, born Henri-Benjamin Constant de Rebecque in Lausanne in 1767, was a Swiss and French philosopher, politician, writer, and diarist. He was educated at the University of Edinburgh and wrote primarily in French. His literary and political career spanned from 1779 until his death in 1830. He was associated with the movements of liberalism and Romanticism.

His notable works include the novel *Adolphe* and various political texts such as *Lettre à Monsieur de Procureur-Général de la cour royale de Poitiers* and *Discours de M. Benjamin Constant, Député de la Sarthe, sur la loi relative aux finances*. He maintained an unmarried partnership with Germaine de Staël. Constant died in Paris and is buried at Père Lachaise Cemetery. His works are held in collections such as the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam.
