American actress (1921-2018)
Betty Jaynes was born in Tennessee in 1921 and was trained as an opera singer. She sang and acted in several films of the 1930s and 40s, notably for MGM. She played alongside Judy Garland in the 1939 Rodgers and Hart musical Babes in Arms. She was married to baritone Douglas McPhail. Jaynes was part of the original suggested cast for MGM's classic film The Wizard of Oz (1939). However, the script and plot were extensively revised before production and her part was dropped. <a href="https://www
