Bharathan, fue director de cine, artista, compositor, director musical, escultor, diseñador de carteles, editor y director de arte. Bharathan es el fundador de una nueva escuela de cine en lengua Malayalam , junto con Padmarajan , en la década de 1980, creando películas que fueron aclamadas por la crítica.
