The original arcade game was advertised in the United States as a sequel to Commando, going as far to refer to the game's main character as Super Joe (the protagonist of Commando) in the promotional brochure, who was originally an unnamed member of a "special commando unit" in the Japanese and World versions.

Bionic Commando (Original-Titel: Top Secret: Hitler no Fukkatsu) ist ein japanisches Actionspiel von Capcom, das 1987 für das Nintendo Entertainment System erschien. Im darauffolgenden Jahr erschienen Umsetzungen für zahlreiche Heimcomputer, portiert von Software Creations und durch Go! vertrieben. Das Spiel ist dafür bekannt, dass der Hauptcharakter im Spiel nicht springen kann. In den USA wurde das Spiel der Zensur unterworfen und in Bionic Commando umbenannt.
