Bitmessage es un protocolo de comunicación descentralizado, cifrado, peer-to-peer que puede ser usado por una persona para enviar mensajes cifrados a otra persona o a varios subscriptores. Bitmessage cifra todos los mensajes de la bandeja de entrada usando y se copia en la P2P anónima con las bandejas de entrada de otros usuarios para ocultar la identidad del usuario, prevenir el espionaje y proteger la red de cualquier control. El protocolo de comunicaciones de Bitmessage previene la suplantación de identidad usando y ocultando los metadatos en caso de intercepción electrónica.
