Après avoir pris les noms de scène The Mighty Bop, Chris the French Kiss et Reminiscence Quartet à ses débuts dans le platinisme, il adopte, en 1998, le pseudo Bob Sinclar, du nom du personnage incarné par Jean-Paul Belmondo dans le film Le Magnifique de Philippe de Broca (1973). Au début des années 2000, il est considéré, avec David Guetta, comme l'un des grands représentants de la French Touch. Il est à l’origine de succès internationaux et de projets parmi lesquels Africanism All Stars et Salomé de Bahia (avec notamment le single Outro Lugar), outre de nombreux remix.
