Bombyx
Sign in to saveBombyx is the genus of true silk moths or mulberry silk moths of the family Bombycidae, also known as silkworms, which are the larvae or caterpillars of silk moths. The genus was erected as a subgenus by Carl Linnaeus in his 10th edition of Systema Naturae (1758).
Species
Bombyx es el género de las mariposas o gusanos de seda de la familia de lepidópteros Bombycidae. Contiene diversas especies B. mandarina: es la especie salvaje. B. mori: la especie doméstica, su origen está datado entre cinco mil y cuatro mil seiscientos años, a partir de la selección artificial de la primera. Las orugas de ambas especies se alimentan de diferentes especies de árboles de la familia Moraceae en especial de género Morus

==Etymology== The word bombyx comes from Ancient Greek βόμβυξ, which means "silk-worm" or "silk garment".
