Bermans zweite Regiearbeit basiert lose auf dem blutigen Kult von Adolfo de Jesús Constanzo, der in einem satanischen Ritual Menschenopfer darbrachte. Constanzos Anhänger entführten dabei unter anderen den US-amerikanischen Studenten Mark Kilroy, dessen brutale Ermordung den Schwerpunkt des Films bildet.
