Burscheid ist eine Kleinstadt im Rheinisch-Bergischen Kreis in Nordrhein-Westfalen mit rund 19.000 Einwohnern. Die Stadt ist geprägt durch viele kleinere Ortschaften und durch ihr Stadtzentrum mit Marktplatz und Kirche. Burscheid wurde bereits 1175 erstmals urkundlich erwähnt. Am 18. August 1856 bekam die damalige Landgemeinde durch den König Friedrich Wilhelm IV. von Preußen die Stadtrechte verliehen.
