Israel "Cachao" López (September 14, 1918 – March 22, 2008) was a Cuban double bassist and composer who helped popularize mambo in the United States in the early 1950s. He has a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, won several Grammy Awards, and has been described as "the inventor of the mambo". He is considered a master of descarga (Latin jam sessions). Israel „Cachao“ López (* 14. September 1918 in Havanna, Kuba; † 22. März 2008 in Coral Gables, Florida, USA) war ein kubanisch-amerikanischer Bassist und Komponist. Er gilt als einer der bedeutendsten Musiker Kubas und (zusammen mit seinem Bruder Orestes) als Begründer des Mambo. Seine bekanntesten Kompositionen sind wohl Mambo (geschrieben für und später aufgenommen von ) und Pueblo nuevo (zu hören auf Buena Vista Social Club).
