Encyclopedic overview
Carapelle Calvisio is a village and comune (municipality) in the Province of L'Aquila in the region of Abruzzo in central Italy. It is located in the natural park known as the Gran Sasso e Monti della Laga National Park at 900 metres (3,000 ft) above sea level. It is mostly known as being one of the least populous non-alpine comunes in Italy, with a population of 68 as of 2026. It also the least populous municipality in Abruzzo, tied with Montelapiano. It is located directly some kilometers from the historical castle Rocca Calascio.
Carapelle Calvisio's location (separated by a mountain from L'Aquila area) preserved it from serious damage in the 2009 L'Aquila earthquake.
