De lelcaracara (Phalcoboenus carunculatus) is een roofvogel uit de familie van de Falconidae (valkachtigen). Marc Athanase Parfait Œillet Des Murs beschreef de lelcaracara onder de tegenwoordig gangbare naam Phalcoboenus carunculatus. Het type-exemplaar is afkomstig uit Colombia en werd hem door de broers Edouard en Jules Verreaux toegestuurd. Het woord Phalcoboenus is een samenstelling uit de Griekse woorden «phalkōn φάλκων» voor «valk» en «bainō βαίνω» voor «gaan, lopen». Het woord carunculatus is afkomstig van het latijnse woord carancula voor «klein stuk vlees». De lelcaracara heet in Spanje matamico parameño en wordt lokaal ook curiquingue, matamico carunculado, caracara paramuno, caracara carunculado en caraca curiquingue genoemd.
