Rome (in Italian and Latin, Roma) — the capital city of Italy, located on the Tiber river in the Metropolitan City of Rome Capital (former Province of Rome), in central Italy.

Inhabited for over 3,000 years — the city was the seat of the Roman Kingdom, Roman Republic, and the Roman Empire — now with a metropolitan area of more than 3 million inhabitants, it the largest city on the Italian Peninsula. The Vatican City is an enclave within Rome.
