Catholics for Choice

Catholics for Choice exists to amplify the voices of the pro-choice Catholic majority and counter Catholic institutional overreach around reproductive freedom. Since 1973, we’ve worked in the United States and across the world to ensure that all people have access to safe and affordable reproductive healthcare services and to infuse our core values into public policy, community life, and Catholic social thinking and teaching. We believe that reproductive freedom is Catholic social justice value. We work to dismantle religiously based obstructions to abortion care, contraceptive access, and comprehensive healthcare, particularly because these barriers disproportionately affect people of color, the poor, and the vulnerable. At Catholics for Choice, we encounter, educate, and embolden pro-choice Catholics nationwide. At the local and national levels, our community of pro-choice Catholics shapes a future where the faithful majority can rise with a vibrant and influential voice capable of reshaping reproductive rights because of their faith and not despite it. While we recognize that Catholic institutional overreach in healthcare and policymaking affects everyone, we focus on pro-choice Catholic advocates and those who are questioning the church’s stance on reproductive freedom. Our work generates impact in three key areas: shifting public perception to demonstrate that the majority of Catholics support reproductive freedom, organizing pro-choice Catholic advocates to counter the institutional Catholic hierarchy, and strengthening the broader reproductive rights movement by highlighting Catholic support for reproductive rights. At the local and national levels, our community of pro-choice Catholics shapes a future where the faithful majority can rise with a vibrant and influential voice capable of reshaping reproductive rights because of their faith and not despite it.
