Charles Garnier

Jean Louis Charles Garnier, known in his native language as Charles Garnier, was a French architect. Born in Paris on 1825-11-06, he was educated at Beaux-Arts de Paris under Hippolyte Le Bas and Jean Antoine Injalbert. He was a member of the Académie des beaux-arts and held the position of president. His notable works include the Palais Garnier and the Nice Observatory.

Garnier received several awards, including the Prix de Rome, the Royal Gold Medal, and the titles of Officer and Grand Officer of the Legion of Honour. He spoke and wrote in French. He died in the 5th arrondissement of Paris on 1898-08-03 and is buried at Montparnasse Cemetery. He had a child named Christian Garnier.
